Please see below the the latest bridge closure update from Network Rail:
“I’d like to update you on our ongoing work at Royal Wootton Bassett. Since closing the bridge at Marlborough Road / Broad Town last month, we have been infilling the side arches with concrete and diverting various utility services. Between now and the beginning of May we also be constructing access ramps to the railway track.
From 01.00 on 1 May to 05.00 on 3 May – the Bank Holiday weekend – we’ll be removing and then replacing the central section of bridge, so that it can accommodate overhead electrification lines. We’ll also be removing the existing footbridge. Safety is our number one priority and, for this reason, the work needs to take place during a full possession of the railway (when no trains are running).
We are writing to residents within the vicinity of the bridge to let them know what’s happening but please be assured that every effort is made to minimise any unnecessary noise and we have reminded all staff and contractors to be considerate of the environment they are working in. Residents with any concerns or questions may call our 24-hour national helpline on 03457 11 41 41.”
